The Quick That’s-the-One-I-Need! Guide to Nanit Notifications

There’s a notification for every kind of parent. Because you want to know when you’re needed. And it’s fun to catch all the cuteness. And it’s oh so excellent to have eyes on your rambling toddler. Nanit can help with all of it. Here’s how.
Why do babies make noises when they sleep? Reading The Quick That’s-the-One-I-Need! Guide to Nanit Notifications 7 minutes Next We Asked, You Answered: The 5 Nanit Features Parents Love Most

For the parent who loves to have every last detail at your fingertips to the one who takes more of a wake-me-up-if-there’s-a-problem approach—and everything in between—Nanit has a notification for you.

Below, find a primer that will let you tailor our notifications exactly to your personality and comfort level. Plus, as your family grows and your kids get older, Nanit notifications can be adjusted to fit your (new) needs and preferences.

The caregiver who wants to know everything

The cute blowing of bubbles, the sweet settling-in wiggles, and for sure anytime your baby needs you—you’re here for it. You’d also give Goldilocks a run for her money in your desire to make sure that your baby’s sleep space is not too hot, not too cold, but (all together now…) just right.

The notifications you’ll love:

Temperature and Humidity Notifications

Nanit monitors the temperature and humidity levels in your baby's nursery using built-in sensors within the Pro Baby Monitor stand. The information shows up in real-time in your Nanit app. You can also customize the notifications to alert you should the temperature or humidity go outside a pre-programmed range. (Quick! Open that window before the baby wakes up!) (Available to all users and with all stands.)

Motion + Sound Notifications

If Nanit’s Motion and Sound notifications detect movement or sound, they’ll send you real-time notifications and a video clip. Check in to see whether your baby is just shifting in their sleep or ready for a midnight snack. You can also customize the settings to be more or less sensitive. (This feature is available to all Nanit users with all stands.)

Breathing Motion Monitoring

Nanit's Breathing Motion Monitoring detects changes in breathing patterns and lets you know, allowing for quick intervention when necessary. Breathing Motion Monitoring is available whenever your baby is wearing Breathing Wear, our baby sleepwear line featuring a unique pattern, custom-designed to enable the Pro Baby Monitor to accurately track your baby’s breathing motion. When you put your baby in Breathing Wear or wrap the Breathing Band around them atop their pajamas, the camera tracks the fabric’s pattern as your baby breathes. Then, if you’re needed, BMM notifies you right away.

Baby Standing

Our Baby Standing Smart Notification feature gives you an early heads-up that your baby’s likely about to be on the move. Baby Standing notifies you when your baby stands up in the crib continuously for five seconds or more. Also, being able to tune into your baby’s standing early gives you time to redirect them or raise the crib rail before they try to climb and tumble overboard. (Floor Stand or Wall Mount as well as an Insights plan required.)

The big picture parent

You love having a sense of your child’s wellbeing…but in broad strokes, please. Sleep patterns? Sure, super helpful to know! Milestones are the best. But as for all the nitty gritty, down-to-the-last detail? You’ll take a pass. After all, there are Nobody Wants This episodes to catch up on.

The notifications you’ll love:

Cry Detection

One of Nanit’s Smart Notifications, Cry Detection helps take the guesswork out of knowing when your baby really needs you. When the Pro Baby Monitor picks up the sound of your crying baby for a few seconds, it notifies you in real time. Cry Detection also helps you filter out other sounds or phantom cries, cutting out confusion. Tap the notification and you’ll be taken to the live screen so you can check in on your child and, if needed, go in and work your soothing (or feeding or diaper-changing) magic. (Insights plan is required.)

Baby Standing

Your baby is starting to do all the things. Our Baby Standing Smart Notification (which alerts you when your baby stands up in the crib continuously for five seconds or more) clues you in when they’re done with their nap, and likely standing at the crib’s edge like the champ waiting to head back into the ring. Baby Standing is also a helpful predictor of what you need to add to your to-do list, such as “Get toddler bed” and “Babyproof.” (Available beginning at 8 months old. Floor Stand or Wall Mount as well as an Insights plan required.)

The problem solver

You absolutely want to know if your child needs you. But are you rushing in to check every sound? Nah. And other than the highlights (They slept well last night? Yes!), you’re good unless something specifically needs your attention. There’s a lot to juggle these days, so whenever you can share the mental load, you’re all in.

The notifications you’ll love:

In addition to the two Smart Notifications above, you may also like:

Child Out Of Bed

The toddler is on the move! As with other Smart Notifications, such as Baby Standing, the Nanit camera’s algorithm utilizes advanced body position technology to track movement within the bed. Once your baby turns 16 months, if Child Out of Bed detects that your child has left their bed, you'll receive a notification via the Nanit app so you can intercept your young escape artist. (Floor Stand or Wall Mount as well as an Insights plan required.)

Alert Zone

Your child is really on the move! Used in partnership with the Flex Stand, the Alert Zone feature lets you define a specific area within Pro Baby Monitor’s view as the "Alert Zone." This could be anything from the space around the TV to a doorway, a play area, or any other space you’d like to monitor for movement. Should the system detect motion within the off-limits zone, you’ll get a notification via the Nanit App. Sort of like having a second set of eyes on the back of your head. (Exclusive to the Nanit Pro Camera when used with the Flex Stand and requires an Insights Plan.)

At Nanit, we’ve designed our notifications so that we can grow with you from pregnancy through preschool and beyond. We’re with you as you’re setting up the nursery before your baby is born. When you bring your newborn home, we’re there to help ease the new-parent-nerves with notifications that let you tune into Breathing Motion Monitoring, sound and movements, and make sure your baby’s sleep environment is just right. As they start to be better, longer sleepers, our notifications can be adjusted accordingly. When they turn into little movers and shakers, we can adjust with you again, helping you keep them safe as they start to explore in bigger ways. And should your family expand, Nanit is flexible there, too, able to meet you through all the ages and stages. In short, we’re your parenting partner, every step of the way.
